No 14 - To sample all ales brewed in West Sussex

Surprise discovery last week that I forgot to post . One of the local co-op stores (Westbourne) sells some of the Hammerpot range in bottles. First I tried was Red Hunter:

New goal for my list - No 37 Home Made Cheese

Added another goal to my 50/50 list. Prompted by our local cheese shop in Emsworth that are now selling home made cheese kits.

No 14 - To sample all ales brewed in West Sussex

Voyage out to Midhurst yesterday to look at Rangemaster cookers, however also in Midhurst is a local off license 'The Crafty Pint' which sells a sizeable range of bottled beers, mostly from my 'Brewed in West Sussex' list. They also had some beer on tap for carry out.

Brought 16 bottles including one produced by Ballard's especially for the shop. Also got some Trueleigh Gold from the Downlands Brewery in a carry out. Very quaffable at 3.7% ABV.

No 14 - To sample all ales brewed in West Sussex

Whilst undertaking the first leg of the South Down Way I visited the Royal Oak at Hooksway and sampled another of my West Sussex ale list:

No 17 - Walk the South Downs Way

First stab at a leg of the South Downs Way. Walking with the dogs (Ruby and Hugo) and friends Chilli, Netti and their dog (Pomme), walked east from Harting Down CP on circular route via Royal Oak at Hooksway (see next post).

No 30 - Rebuild Allotment

Progressed the rebuilt allotment beds.

And brought the seeds we want to plant along with suitable propagators. Planning to sew seeds this coming weekend!

Latest sample:

Found that local Co-op in Westbourne stocks a range of Hammerpot bottle conditioned ales plus the Hepworth & Co range.

No 14 - To sample all ales brewed in West Sussex

Voyage out to the White Swan in Bosham this evening with my good friend Ruth Collins who incidentally is also undertaking a 50/50 challenge in 2015!

Sampled two beers this evening but sadly only one from my list, the lovely and fruity Hophead from Dark Star:

Sadly no other West Sussex Beers on the list so my second pint was an interloper from just over the border in Hampshire, Irving Type 42:

No 30 - Rebuild Allotment

planning for rebuilt allotment space in our back garden. The old wooden one has rotted through in places, plus woodworm has set in. A new much more sturdy replacement is called for.  Having considered various solutions, railway sleepers seemed the most sturdy but on review would cost circa £300 for the size we are looking for. After much research I have settled on 2 off 4' square raised beds from  quickcrop.co.uk. The beds will look like my sketch below and the planned planting is set out in the second sketch.
